If you guessed The Inn at Diamond Cove (1890) in Portland, Maine, you guessed correctly! The inn was formerly an old army barrack that has been restored to exact specifications in order to preserve the structure’s historic character.

The Inn at Diamond Cove is part of the small island community of Great Diamond Island, situated just off the coast of Portland, Maine. Once a pivotal outpost in United States military operations, Portland is host to army structures that are now restored and transformed into homes with wonderful historic detailing.

Prior to being an army base, Diamond Cove was once a famous artistic retreat. American literary greats such as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Harriet Beecher Stowe spent time experiencing quiet island living in Maine.

The Inn at Diamond Cove reopened in May of 2015 with 44 luxurious, yet simply appointed, guestrooms and suites, each sure to accommodate every guest’s needs. The structure has been restored with meticulous attention to historic detail along with the intent of preserving its original character.
